    HR Business Partner

An HR Business Partner (HR BP), as explained by Dave Ulrich, who defined the HR Business Partnering concept in the 1990s, is responsible for achieving a company's strategic goals through human resource management. The role of an HR Business Partner can also be described more simply – as a combination of an HR officer, an analyst, and a business consultant. This specialist therefore works at the intersection of several departments: HR, sales, finance, and process design.

HR Business Partner – who are they?

What does an HR Business Partner do?

Compared to a typical HR specialist, an HR Business Partner operates more strategically. An HR Business Partner aims to diagnose the organisation's business needs and provide HR solutions that enable these needs to be met. To this end, an HR Business Partner develops and implements an action plan that contributes to increasing employee efficiency, satisfaction, and engagement, which in turn improves the overall functioning of the company.

The responsibilities of an HR Business Partner therefore include, among others:

    • analysing staffing needs and preparing and coordinating a tailored recruitment process,
    • responsibility for employee onboarding and offboarding,
    • identifying training needs, preparing and coordinating appropriate workshops,
    • fostering employee development,
    • talent management,
    • resolving internal conflicts,
    • assisting with employer branding processes,
    • coaching and mentoring,
    • setting company business goals based on its strategic assumptions.

How to become an HR Business Partner?

An HR Business Partner is an extremely versatile specialist who carries enormous responsibility. They are, in a way, a combination of several other professions, such as an analyst, economist, marketer, HR officer, recruiter, business consultant, or coach, each requiring high competencies and extensive industry knowledge. To become an HR Business Partner, one must therefore start by acquiring the right qualifications. Employers will certainly welcome graduates with degrees in management, economics, and marketing, as well as those with experience working in the HR industry.

An interesting solution that allows people not yet associated with the HR world to gain the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge is master's degree programmes in HR Business Partnering offered by private universities. Meanwhile, specialists who already have both the 'paper' and experience in HR can pursue postgraduate studies in HR Business Partnering. There are also HR BP training courses typically aimed at HR, payroll, and recruitment specialists.

Soft skills are also crucial – an ideal HR Business Partner should be analytical, possess impeccable personal culture and presentation, have strong interpersonal skills, and be open to continuous learning and constantly seeking optimal solutions to difficult situations.

How much does an HR Business Partner earn?

Is it worth pursuing this career path? Absolutely! The earnings of an HR Business Partner in 2025 range from PLN 7,510 to PLN 12,000 gross per month, with a median of PLN 9,650 – according to data from the National Salary Survey. It is also a profession with significant prospects; an HRBP can find employment in small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as large corporations in any industry. All forecasts indicate that a good business management specialist will be needed in the vast majority of companies in the coming years.
