    Incentive travel

Incentive travel is a trip organised and funded by a company as a reward for employees, sales teams or business partners who have achieved specific goals. It is one of the non-financial motivation and loyalty-building tools, categorised under the MICE business tourism segment.

    What is incentive travel?

Incentive travel differs from a standard team-building event in that it is a conditional reward – it is granted for specific, pre-defined achievements (e.g., meeting a sales target). It combines an element of competition and recognition with an attractive experience, often in a prestigious location, making it more impactful than a one-off monetary bonus that an employee quickly spends and forgets.

Objectives and benefits of incentive travel

    • Motivation and goal achievement – a clearly defined travel reward mobilises teams to achieve ambitious results. It's beneficial to pair it with a transparent management by objectives system.
    • Team integration – a shared trip builds relationships and trust that translate into daily collaboration.
    • Loyalty and retention – appreciated employees are less likely to leave the company.
    • Employer branding – attractive trips enhance the company's image as an employer of choice.

    Incentive travel and taxes

The value of an incentive trip may constitute employee income subject to PIT (Personal Income Tax) and social security contributions – especially if it has a clear reward character. However, tax implications depend on many factors: the purpose of the trip (reward vs. a training component or company meeting), the group of participants, and the source of funding (e.g., operating funds vs. company social benefits fund - ZFŚS). Before organising such a trip, it is advisable to consult with an accountant or tax advisor regarding settlement.
